  Weaning April

I can remember those days when April was around four months old and refusing to feed. It was hot. I was a new mum, worrying a lot about my baby and how she fed and slept. I spoke to different ABA counsellors about breast refusal and got lots of great ideas to encourage April to feed. I just begged her to keep going to nine months at least so we could go straight onto solids. I so wanted to feed her until two or more, but took it day by day, step by step...more
  An Interview with Kali Wendorf

The nuclear family, as I define it, is the basic father, mother and 2.5 kids model. It’s based on an insular mindset, whereby community and larger extended family have very little to do with the day to day existence of a family’s members. The nuclear family model is mostly a product of a globalised economy, in which family members move away from each other in search of work and people spend a majority of their time at work and at school, or in their cars commuting to those two places...more

Fighting Flouridation in Queensland

On 5th December 2007, QLD Premier Anna Bligh announced that the government will take immediate steps to introduce flouride into the Queensland water system.

Did you know?: Scientists and health professionals in many countries oppose water fluoridation because of its toxicity - To date 14 Nobel Scientists have opposed water fluoridation. Fluoride is not recommended for anyone with kidney failure, in pregnancy or breast feeding. And baby formulas should NOT be mixed with fluoridated water because of the high risk of fluorosis.
