Thank you for another brilliant edition of byronchild. I am excited by each new edition. Can’t tell you how proud and grateful I feel to you all for producing the first and only Australian parenting magazine worth reading. I am deeply touched by almost every article. I NEED the information that is in it and I am sure so many other parents need it as well. Keep up the great work!!!
Suzanne, Hug-a-bub Byron Bay
I have just read the latest (Dec. 02) byronchild magazine. What a great issue! I say this because I think the articles are all meaningful rather than trivial. I especially enjoyed the story The Butterfly. It touched me and it was a reassurance for me as a mother to an innocent 16-month-old. Thanks. Love, Meg Email
I am an avid reader of byronchild and I really appreciate the quality and relevance of your publication’s articles. One subject I feel is sometimes overlooked in parenting magazines, is the issue of parents raising their children without family or other networks nearby.
I am a New Zealander, living in Melbourne, and have personally experienced the challenge of parenting without family living locally. Since meeting other Mums, I’ve discovered there are many of us these days, who do not have family or other networks to rely on. I think this isolation is a very real issue for parents today.
Below is a poem about my experience of joining a pram walker’s group with other mothers. It’s been a very significant and beneficial experience for me, especially as a first-time mum with no family around, or other networks already in place. Perhaps readers will identify with my poem and may even be inspired to get out in the community and have some fun themselves! Once again, thanks for a refreshingly intelligent parenting publication. Incidentally, if you’d like any more information about the pram walkers’ group, I’d be happy to provide more information about it.
Yours Sincerely, Emma Darragh-Heath Email
Step by Step Step by Step Troubles dissipate Energy’s restored Words and fears And worries Set free Wafting away with the breeze of the day. Baby is sleeping – or quiet at least Entranced by fresh air and nature’s peace Mother is moving Step by Step Finding her rhythm, getting her groove back A nice respite In this new way of life Along the track perspective appears And what’s that sound? It’s laughter I hear! Loneliness fades, music to my ears For now, no cares Just movement and mateship And finding my way Bit by Bit. Step by Step. Day by Day. Everything’s going to be OK Walking is the way. Walking is the way.
